Tight Rope

The wind blew trying to push her off her tight rope.  Granted this wasn’t a tight rope in front of an audience but plunged across a ravine.  She had come across this ravine but to make traveling faster she knew she had to cross the ravine as quickly as possible.  Her journey would take an additional two weeks if she didn’t take find a way across.
Remembering the concentration she had used to fire her bow with the rope on it in order to cross this thin line with the wind trying to push her off.  As she had raised her bow she became one with it.  She disappeared as one individual person and became a piece of everything around her.  No longer had the wind touched her, the cold didn’t make her shiver, the wound in her shoulder didn’t hurt, she was just there aiming her bow across the ravine to the other side where she saw a crevice to shoot into.
She fired the bow and it was like magic the way the arrow crossed the ravine dragging the rope in a flowing way.  The arrow struck just inside the crevice and the ropes loop she had tied at the end flowed onto the rock just below.  Once the rope lassoed the rock she pulled gently to make sure it was firm.  Tightening the rope and giving a sharp tug made the rope taught.  She tied the end in her hands around a tree.
Hearing howls in the distance had gotten her to start faster.  She knew what was looking for her and didn’t intend to be found crossing a rope.  Hence the position she was in now.  The wind howled almost deafening her ears.  Now snow was starting to come down to make it colder then it would have been in the woods.  Arms outright she inched another step forward.  Slowly she was making her way across.  Breathing was becoming difficult because she really didn’t like heights and this was a good 400 feet up in the air.
Feeling the rope swaying underfoot didn’t really help the situation.  This was becoming more dangerous then she had first thought.  Her stomach started cramping from holding herself still.  She knew she had to make it.  Another inch moved was another inch toward the freedom she dreamed of.  The rope was started to become a little more lax.  She had to hurry.
Another step further is another step closer.  Almost to the other side she took a deep breath.  Stepping quickly she leaped off the rope.  Falling to her knees she realized she had been holding her breath and exhaled deeply.  Taking in the cold air that almost froze her lungs was one of the best breaths of her life.
Howling in the distance brought her back to reality.  No more kissing the ground.  She turned and loosed another arrow which sliced the rope from the tree.  She rolled up what she had left of her rope and started to jog into the trees.  As she got a couple of meters in she ducked in behind a tree to hide.  She decided to take a small peek around the tree to see the other side of the cliff.  Awaiting the other side of the ravine was what she feared.  A large dark wolf was padding back and forth looking into the ravine.  Looking sideways at the arrow in the tree and the piece of rope that was still looped around the tree it growled deeply enough to be heard on the other side.
Narrowing its eyes it trotted back into the trees.  It started to run and got to full speed in very short time.  Right before it got to the edge of the cliff it launched itself from its hind legs.  The muscles in its body could be seen rippling.  Just a few feet from the other side of the cliff she stood up from behind the tree raising her bow.
“I do not want to go back,” she hissed as she release the arrow she had knocked.  The dark wolf only looked at her as the arrow took it through the throat.  It fell and without another glance back she walked away.

Creature

Darkness covered the entire forest.  This darkness was a darkness that held throughout time.  Light was not allowed in and people were unwelcome.  Only those that grew mad would come out of the forests darkness into the light of the sun.
The brave soul that walked through the woods now avoided being noisy.  No sense in attracting unnecessary attention that would be passed by the trees and the wind to the demonic souls that lived here.   No sticks broke, no grass ruffled and no breath could be heard from this traveler.  Tall, with broad shoulders and hair that covered his shoulders were some traits of this human that had entered the demon zone.  His mouth moved but no words or breath could be heard coming out of him.  What was he?
His scent was caught by one of those forewarned about.  Gently, without making any noise from branch to branch it moved to intercept this arrogant human.  Catching up to him was quick work due to the slowness the human moved by.  This was strange in itself because every other human moved with quick haste and thought they could make it from the dark forest.  The creature didn’t really think long on how strange it was that a human walked slowly where others ran.  Descending on the human from above, claws came out of its six fingered hands.  Just before it landed on him with its half ton weight it bounced off a shield that could not be seen.  As it landed off to the left side of the human it pivoted and launched another attack.
The stranger turned calmly to the creature.  Now a sigh escaped the human’s lips which of course the creature did not understand.  The creature’s pivot was almost slow to the human’s eyes.  He didn’t really want to harm anyone or anything.  In fact if he had been left alone as he wished he would have flown in and out of the woods once he had achieved reaching the object he was on a quest for.  The creature was approaching him now put an end to the creature before he even knew what was happening.  The man raised his hand toward the creature.  Just as the creatures mouth reached the hand to close down and chew it off a bright white light shined that blinded the creature.  Then an extreme heat filled the creature to make its blood boil.
Now the creature understood.  Too late as it was it realized that this human was not just a human.  A cleric, a paladin, a man of strength and virtue that no one or no creature should take lightly.  With that basic spell of light no evil could touch this man without dying from grievous wounds.  Only one demon had survived that and this creature was one of its creations.  The stranger continued on without so much as a glance back at the now glazed over eyes of death from this once prosperous enemy.

Disaster

What happens when two natural disasters strike each other at the exact same time?  This only happens once every one million years.  First the heat develops under the ground at increasing rates.  Magma flowing through different corridors built especially for it.  The pressure below the ground was raising the ground above.  Mountains above were starting to shift growing in one particular area.  The mountain was about to explode and unleash a force that hasn’t been seen in many years.
At the same time up in the sky was roiling with grey skies seeping and dark.  Water was starting to drip and there was a green tinge to the sky.  This green tinge and modern tools could only predict what was about to be released from those increasingly dark clouds. The heat and the cool air meeting each other in the just above that volcano below awaiting it’s soon to come explosion with great, almost perfect, patience.  The air starts move and swirl just above.
As the air above starts to create a funnel another surprise underneath the ground is waiting to pop like an old school jack in the box.  Smoke starts to spurt and in different areas of the once mountain, now volcano.  Molten lava starts to spurt out of the top.  Wave upon wave flowing out spitting rocks like rain falls from the sky.  Rock starting to fall away reveals more magma.  Many types of death await the unwary when this large of a natural disaster occurs.  There isn’t an insect alive that can survive.  Then the large explosion occurred.  Lava shot into the air into the grey sky above.
When the lava shot into the air almost simultaneously the tornado shoots down right into the top of the tornado.  The tornado almost pulling lava into the sky and spreading it further then it would have gone normally.  As the magnetic suction of the heat of the lava trying to blow out what is left and the suction of the tornado in the middle of the volcano a new type of energy is formed.  This energy is beyond any sort of energy man-made could be bought.  This energy was like an atomic explosion multiplied by a hundred thousand.  The volcano and the tornado almost attach with the energy of a small black hole.  This energy could have never been described without seeing this immense new complex relation of sucking and producing more energy out of a volcano.
What is the reaction of this action?  The cloud that spreads not only hundreds of miles but covers the world stops the sunlight from shining through to help plants grows.  Ash blows across a quarter of the planet.  This ash in turn kills almost anything it touches immediately because no oxygen can grow in this.  The world as it is known is transformed into an ashtray essentially.  Then the cold hits.  First short spurts of snow and ice storms completely covering the globe in snow.  How do we stop this before it happens again?  Time is almost up because a millions years has been a thousand years gone.

Phuturistic

Walking around what was once known as the Unitus Statis of Amercanes was a sight to be taken in.  The buildings that were floating on the air always were impressive.  Standing on the edge of a platform one could see many hundreds of miles if another building didn’t float into the field of vision.
To look below the floating buildings and blocks could be queasy at times.  Nothing but jagged rocks and hanging moss could be seen beneath.  No one remembers what technology released the ground and allowed it to float above the heads of those beneath.  Directly beneath those floating structures there is thick moisture that builds up, almost cloudlike.
It’s been said not to go to the center just below any of the floating structures.  People and animals alike disappear when entered.  Whether this is a sign that the Archectites are too dangerous to keep around or not they have been around for too many generations.  They have seen humans evolve into what they are today, many races from the gnomish to the giants.
The amazing part about these giant masses of ground that fly in the sky was how quietly they move.  Not a whisper of a sound could be heard.  The only ones that stood in place were anchored to other ones and anchored to the ground.  This is how the city in the skies started to come by.  Here at Nostrom was the largest city in the known world.
To travel from one to the other one could use the sky bridges if they were brave.  The quickest way to get to the other was to fly.  All sorts of flying machines could be seen zooming from one to the other Archectites.  Amazing flowing machines that ranged from using fossil fuels to ion engines could be built with old materials found by the Archeologist Association of Dramner.
Crafting these machines had become an art.  No one knew exactly how everything worked except the most masterful craftsmen and craftswomen.  They were the most sought out people in the new world.  If a human of any kind didn’t have a flying machine then they didn’t have a life or they wanted to be off the grid for whatever the reason.  The machines were all tracked by sophisticated machines buried deep within each of the floating mountains.  If the authorities wanted you, they got you.
The world of Tris, which has been known as other names in history, has been for the most part a peaceful world.  As long as most rules are followed there is very little murder and death on this world.  Technology has saved an immense part of population making people survive much longer.  So far the longest human recorded living in history was 1429 years old.  Imagine a technological peaceful world and you would find Tris.

Charity

The reason I ask for donations is for a couple of reasons.  One 50% of everything I get goes to charity.  The specific charity that I have picked for the moment is the American Heart Association.  This charity is special to me because at three weeks old I had an open heart surgery, called the Senning Procedure, done which I have grown with.  I survived because I had all of the help possible from family and doctors.  The American Heart Association also helped my parents through this very difficult time up to and including planning my funeral.
The other reason is that writing is a passion of mine and I felt it was time to start doing what I love.  If I can bring just a little joy or fright or any other emotion then I have done my job.  Please open up your imaginations and imagine what we can do together.  Thanks for reading, I will continue writing more stories for your enjoyment.

Reality

Dreams are part of the world upon waking into the real world.  There are many types of these dreams that aren’t just dreams but a part of reality now.  Do these mean anything or are they just remnants of the sleep world.
Once upon a time in the world of dreams spiders had been attacking.  They kept getting bigger and bigger.  In the dream world these were felt as if real.  Finding a rubber spider seemed to keep these others that were attacking away from loved ones.  This was one of those spiders that look semi real that a person might find at a fair or park; prizes to be won in the real world but an amulet to keep creatures of the dark away in the night.
Upon waking today I went to reach and shut off the alarm.  Then as I was reaching around trying to find the amulet, the rubber spider, I scare myself.  I can’t find it anywhere.  There is a moment of clear panic that the spiders are going to come and get me and the ones that I love.  I start scrambling around the bed to find my rubber spider.  Where could it be?

Then my fiancĂ© asks, “What are you looking for?”

I reply, “I don’t know.  There was this rubber spider.  Where did I put it?”

“What are you talking about,” she says giggling at me.

Then as I come awake fully I realize.  I start laughing with her and before you know it we are just cracking up.  I could have sworn that little fella had been real.

Traveling

My mind cringes as my mind wants to shrink into itself as the sound creeps again.  The sound is a fear.  The fear is a simple sound that wants to climb into my head.  Destroying every fiber of my being is easy for this sound.  Throbbing in the head as the sound enters my ears and flows into each nerve ending hair of the drum that thrumps into the rest of my head.
Simple sounds are sometimes the worst sounds to people.  To me if I here that sound it kills me, literally.  This then reincarnates me to another life.  Every life I have been in this one sound teleports me to another life that I believe is a string of my own life in alternate universes.  I don’t know what happens to my old body, my own life; to the people I love and care for.  All I know is that I must keep moving forward and learn something new in each life before I die and transfer.
When I transfer there are many things that I must discover.  The following is my check list that I ask as soon as a chance presents itself.

          Am I in immediate danger?
          Am I wearing clothes?
          What do I do next?

A short, succinct list that needs to answers because it could mean the end my life, permanently.  There have been times that if I didn’t tuck and roll or hide behind a large object I would be dead either by bullet or worse.  Yes, I have come out naked more than once in my life.  Either embarrassing or scary depending on the situation I awake in.  In order to find out what I need to do next is by finding whatever tasks I am supposed to be doing, whether that means going home to a new family or going to complete a project at the job I am currently holding.
I could reminisce more but I have a feeling this will be a very short stay.  Entering into this world I have a work project to complete which has to do with some statistical analysis.  What that means I have no idea so I must start researching quickly.  This is the fun part about traveling to different places.  I have learned to stay calm and breath first and foremost everything else including intelligence comes with time.

Dreams

The sun shining through the branches above made the mist start to fade with the morning growing later.  The smell of a light hearted forest is the most calming feeling that comforts the most adventurous souls.  Dangling branches just above his head gently shakes in the wind to wake him up.  Eyes opening, grey eyes stare above through the branches to the sky that will soon be blue.
A smile creases this gentle young ones face.  Nothing soothes body aches like a great night sleep.  The night held a gentle breeze but was still fairly warm.  He didn’t even need to use his cloak to cover himself in the night.  Stars had winked above his head and talked him to sleep.  Cradling his small friend who found him in the night helped his dreams to be the best dreams he had in many years.  Rolling fields and farmland rolled through his head in his dream.
Sitting up to stretch, arms outstretched as far as they would go, breathing in deeply he becomes wide awake.  There was nothing softer then a nice tuft of grass to sleep on.  Looking around he takes in the view around him.  Closer to him then he normally liked a pack of wolves trotted through the field below him.  Grasses were blowing and folding over in the gentle breeze of the beautiful day.  Up over the next rise below him he could see the king’s castle.  The sight was one of wonder.  Beyond the city below rose the mountainous range called Staggering Peaks.
Behind the castle, a good 20 leagues beyond the city, the largest of the peaks rose.  People called it Trag Mountain.  This mountain had supposedly never been climbed before.  It rose well above the clouds so he believed it.  A thought in his head was he wanted to be one of the first to climb it in order to be knighted for something that wonderful.  Again though dreams were not the reality he lived.  Back to work he supposed.

Mountains Fall

Mist crackling as he exhales the cold air from his lungs.  Each foot step became harder than the last due to the strain of height.  Climbing up Dagger’s Edge was a less then trivial thought on his mind.  He knew he was walking toward his death and yet he gently accepted this.  This would save the human race from extinction without destroying it first; at least not fully.  Many would die this day.  At least their souls could finally rest peacefully.
The crunch of snow beneath his black boots was the only noise to be heard other then the occasional wind gusts.  Climbing at this height shortens anyone’s breath and making it hard to catch his breath.  Each step climbed was one closer step to victory.  Every pine tree passed smelled so sweet, like the breath of life being sucked into his lungs.  Another exploding tree could be heard lower down the mountain from the freezing cold expanding the tree sap to bursting.
Almost down to a crawl he digs his wolf lined gloved hands into the snow to pull himself further up the mountain.  Looking down at his gloves his memories take flight into the past where he had come from.  Each of the linings from his gloves to his cloak came from those he considered family.  Wolves knew more about loyalty and family then even humans.  They died thanks to the hand of Deathwing.
That monstrosity must be extinguished from this life to make a peaceful future.  For two thousand years it has been a living hell here on Notrosedity.  It came from the deepest abysses of Argyle.  The abyss extends on the ocean floor from one continent to the other.  When something needs no air to breath, cannot be broken with magic or steel, and is not afraid of anything, how does the human race stand a chance?
Ravin discovered this one chance.  He knew it would take all of the endurance he had earned through the wars he had participated in.  A hard man with little compassion or feelings left to spend.  Little chance that the Dark people knew he was even there.  Being an experienced tracker he knew how to cover his tracks taking great pains covering his foot work with a branch to cover his tracks.  If they knew he was here he would already be dead.  There sorcery was great and he was only a fighting man who knew how to use the tools he carried with him.  His greatest tool is the Marion-Contoured sword which marked him as a great swordsman.
The edge was within view now finally.  Peaking through the clouds above his thoughts rang in his head.  Almost there and then this will finally be done after all these years.  Thoughts traveled in and out of his head almost as fast as the air from his lungs; at the very least he was not hallucinating from the altitude yet.
Pushing up the last few feet he finally climbs up to the edge of this mountainous range.  Just balancing on the edge he looks down below and a small smile spread across his rough, scarred face.  Once this journey was complete people could start living as humans should.  Peace would be made and flourish through the countries of this great land.
His breath catches as pain passes through his shoulder.  He looks down and sees a thick bolt sticking out of his shoulder.  Contemptuously he looks back and sees the flying creature with the bow.  Dark wings almost the color of night flapping slowly to keep this creep show afloat.  Taking aim again to give a death shot this time round.  The wind must have caught the last shot because Belallions were not known to miss the first time.
Ravin takes one step back while staring the creature in the eye.  As the Belallion took his shot Ravin jumps back and turns his body for the slide down into the dark icy ground beneath.  The arrow screams past his ear but in fully misses.  The screeching from the Belallion follows him as Ravin slides catching speed.  At this pace the thing couldn’t follow him which is good but it would be back with others that can.
Sliding rapidly down at a sharp angle and just hoping that he doesn’t hit any rocks he can see the hole he is aiming at.  Another few seconds and nothing but a dark dream of hope could save the Dark people.  Into the darkness he traverses, may Heaven save his soul, may the Light protect him and may the Darkness be thrown from this beautiful planet.
